- Tim'm T. West is a poet, emcee, scholar and the author of three books "Red Dirt Revival", "BARE", and "Flirting". A graduate of Duke, The New School, and Stanford universities, he is also co-founder of the now defunct rap group DDC. Tim'm followed their success with three solo projects, "Songs from Red Dirt", "Blakkboy Blue(s)", and the 2009 release “In Security: The Golden Error”. He also created and hosted the "Front Porch" Spoken Word/Soul/Hip Hop showcase in DC, Oakland, Chicago, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and various U.S. Colleges and Universities. Tim'm also appeared in Byron Hurt's "Beyond Beats and Rhymes", Alex Hinton's "Pick Up the Mic", and is featured Mario Van Peebles documentary "Bring your "A" Game". Tim'm currently resides in Houston, TX where he is an active Volunteer for St. Hope Foundation's FUSION Program and Board Member for Fresh Start Community Haven. He has also been a Visiting Lecturer in Ethnic Studies at Humboldt State University in Northern California and continues to teach Philosophy and Humanities as an Adjunct Professor in Philosophy at Houston Community College. thanks ya'll. as for the mohawk, ryan? it's a cut I've considered. I'd have to make sure I'm in the right place and at a job that allows that level of artistic self-expression. (hint, hint). as for the sensuality of the barber chair. it's the one place I don't mind being submissive. he says tilt the head, I do so gladly. something about relinquishing control so that you look better. LOL. I also felt that way about having my locs groomed though... and the shirt off? You ain't seen nothing yet. summer approaches, and I'm gone get SWOLE!!!
true very true...though i think im fortunate that im in an academy that supports that kind of expression..wouldn't say the rest of the school is like that. even went to a job fair at conservative, repressed, and collared up Columbia and got a lot of positive comments about it. :)
will i keep it permanently? No...this was something I needed to do to signify a "rite of passage" or a "change" ifyou will..so much upheaval on my end for the past several months...and i needed to show growth or in my case a letting go of 'cultural mores' (i.e. hair must be either in a short fro or a caesar in order to be taken seriously,e tc.)
Clearly I can wear it and i love it. :) This would definitely be a periodic, summer type hair cut...ill most definitely grow it out cause i dolike fros, etc.
